ATLANTA, GA, January 18, 2024 /24-7PressRelease/ — J. David Prologo, MD, FSIR, ABOM-D has been recognized as a 2024 Castle Connolly Top Doctor — the ninth consecutive year he has received the prestigious Top Doctor honor. Only 7 percent of the nation’s licensed physicians are selected annually as Castle Connolly Top Doctors in their regions for their specialties.
Dr. Prologo is a vascular and interventional radiologist and obesity medicine physician whose areas of expertise include weight management, advanced interventional pain procedures, ablation of tumors, and palliative care (aimed at minimizing suffering and maximizing quality of life in seriously ill people).
A highly regarded expert in ablative therapies, Dr. Prologo has pioneered new procedures — including the cryoablation of nerves — and invented procedures that can treat pain, block hunger, and prevent premature ejaculation.
Dr. Prologo treats conditions — both clinically and as part of clinical trials — that include cancer pain, nerve pain, obesity, arthritis, and trauma.
At the center of all of Dr. Prologo’s clinical and academic work is a foundation of humanism. According to Dr. Prologo, “A humanistic approach is unique in that we pledge to advocate for each individual patient as if they were our own relative. If we didn’t have an immediate solution for our spouse or son or friend’s problem, we would never write them off to figure it out on their own, we would help them find the way.”
Dr. Prologo has focused on the delivery and dissemination of humanistic care to his own patients, domestically through dissemination of this approach, and worldwide through various programs. “It underpins everything we do, which makes our approach to patient care special,” he says.
Dr. Prologo is certified by the American Board of Radiology (with subspecialty certification in both interventional/diagnostic radiology and vascular and interventional radiology), as well as by the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
He is a Fellow of the Society of Interventional Radiology and a Diplomate of the American Board of Obesity Medicine.
He is the author of The Catching Point Transformation, A Twelve-Week Weight-Loss Strategy Based in Reality, and has appeared on more than 100 podcasts, television reports, interviews, and web-based news stories. He most recently was featured in the AMC+ docuseries “Thick Skin,” which portrays obesity from the perspective of the patient.
Dr. Prologo’s research focuses on the use of image-guided interventional radiology techniques to deliver stem-cell therapies, treat pain, and manage metabolic conditions such as obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure.
Dr. Prologo has addressed Congress several times about how — by directly addressing pain and treating health issues without surgery — interventional radiology procedures can help fight the opioid epidemic.
Dr. Prologo earned his medical degree at The Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed a four-year residency in diagnostic radiology at University Hospitals Case Medical Center and a one-year vascular and interventional radiology fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Top Doctors are nominated by peer physicians and selected by the physician-led Castle Connolly research team.
Dr. Prologo is consistently nominated as a Top Doctor and serves as an invited speaker around the world — most recently around advanced interventional pain management at the New England Society of Interventional Radiology, a Harvard Medical School consortium-based lecture series.
Dr. Prologo is the Division Director of Interventional Radiology for Emory Healthcare and also serves as the system Vice Chair for Imaging Interventions and Co-Director of the Division of Computational and Image-Guided Research.
