Jessica Bui’s Dedication to Mental Health Wins Her the $2,500 Thumbs Up Guys Scholarship
NORTH CHARLESTON, SC, September 08, 2023 /24-7PressRelease/ — North Charleston, SC, September 8 – Jessica Bui is part of the COVID-19 graduating classes. She was in her second year of high school when the pandemic hit and, along with her peers, rapidly transitioned into at-home learning. Where Bui thrived in an at-home environment, though, she saw her friends start to suffer – and she opted to do something about it.
The scholarship essay Bui submitted to Miller, Dawson, Sigal, & Ward Injury Attorneys (MDSW)’s Thumbs Up Guy Scholarship competition outlines the effort she made to reconnect with her community. Bui spearheaded efforts to speak more openly about youth mental health in tandem with the HOPE Squad.
Bui’s efforts with the HOPE Squad saw her introduce “Hope Week” and “Friendship Fridays” to her fellow students. Her advocacy also saw her school bring a therapist in-house.
While Bui is no longer with the HOPE Squad, the lessons she learned with the team continue to impact her everyday life. Bui remains an advocate for open communication and communal growth. She continues to help friends with their mental health even as she pursues her own academic goals.
Bui is set to graduate with an undergraduate degree in Management. She’s expressed interest in pursuing a Master’s in Business Administration as well as a career at a communication-oriented agency like Grammarly.
MDSW wants to recognize Bui’s dedication to mental health awareness as well as her remarkable dedication to her Arizona State University community. The firm proudly awards Bui one of its two Thumbs Up Guy Scholarships. The scholarships are worth $2,500 in financial support.
